Europe has managed to reduce mortality from cancer
Over the past 20 years, mortality from cancer in Europe has declined markedly. To such conclusion medics from Italy and Switzerland, analyzed data on deaths from 1990 to 2004.

While in the early 1990’s to 100 thousand men each year accounted for 185 cases death from cancer, then to 2000-m respectively, this figure had fallen to 168. Women better statistics: 105 deaths in the early 1990’s and 97 – in the beginning of zero. Factors that, according to doctors from the University of Milan, Mario Negri Institute and the University of Lausanne, helped to reduce mortality from cancer, has become the new methods of treatment, early diagnosis and reducing the number of smokers, the newspaper said.

It should be noted that scientists in their study, whose results were published in the journal Annals of Oncology, to take into account the number of cancer and the malignant tumors, which in Russian medical tradition would have been classified differently.

Russia’s oncologists cancer called malignant tumors that developed from epithelial tissue – the layer of cells that forms the mucous membranes and glands of most of the body. Malignant education, resulting in bone and connective tissue (sarcoma), bone marrow (leukemia), lymph nodes (lymphoma) and pigment cells of the skin (melanoma), in Russian medical literature of cancer is not known.

However, in the English literature is all malignant tumors are designated as cancer – cancer. On the official website of the WHO, the term “cancer” is also used for all cancerous. They are responsible for approximately 13% of all deaths.

Worst of all has to Hungarians, Czechs and Poles: in these countries, mortality from cancer among men – a maximum, and is 255 cases year to 100 thousand people. In the prosperous Swedish death toll this disease is half: a year die from cancer 125 Swedes from the same 100 thousand people.

Among women the highest mortality rate from cancer – in Holland, Hungary, and in one of the UK regions – Scotland. But a resident of Greece, Spain and Portugal, almost half the risk – the researchers explain this difference is not only the level of health, but also a way of life, coupled with a diet. Prevalence of smoking, alcohol consumption, number of people with overweight and the possibility of early diagnosis – each of these factors plays an important role in the occurrence of a particular type of malignancy.

For example lung cancer was generally less common among men, but 27% more women began to strike. The researchers attributed this result mainly to smoking: the weaker sex has historically started en masse later, men use tobacco, and establishing equal rights with men turned out, alas, and the spread of addiction, which is already going out of fashion for men. Denial of cigarettes among European men reduced the incidence of lung cancer by 17%. However, Russia this trend, unfortunately, is not affected. And the number of deaths from lung cancer, our country – in the top five together with the Hungarians, Poles, Czechs and Slovaks.

If smoking is totally dependent on the habits of the person, the presence of to investigate the presence of cervical cancer associated with the development of medicine. Through programs of early detection of this disease, cervical cancer was the claim of 19% fewer women in Europe in general, and doctors noted a clear link the degree of reduction of mortality to the welfare of the health system. In Russia and Eastern Europe, the effect is noticeable less than in Western European countries.

Prevent cancer is easier than cure. Scientists note that the decline in the third, for example, mortality from melanoma due to preventive work. Thus, young people, informed of the dangers of excessive UV exposure to the sun or in the solarium, and now tries to avoid unnecessary risks.

However, where prevention is not always help, or where it does not work (do not give an absolute guarantee any diet or giving up smoking and alcohol use, nor a vaccine for cervical cancer causing virus), in the case come early diagnosis and treatment. New techniques have allowed significantly reduce the number of cases where breast cancer resulted in the death of the patient (by the way, not only among women but also men), in addition, a similar effect is achieved, and for tumors of the prostate gland.

According to forecasts, which previously gave the World Health Organization, by 2030, cancer among the most private cause of death for the year. Deaths from cancer is becoming smaller, and thus sooner or later the disease will come from the most deadly.
