Thin does not mean the patient

The link between cardiovascular disease and obesity is underestimated, while the negative impact on the health of excessive thinness greatly exaggerated.
A group of scientists from Britain and Sweden proposed a new statistic associated with body mass index (BMI). Recall, it is calculated by the following formula: weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. BMI of 25-30 indicates overweight. Then starts obesity, which, according to modern concepts, increases the risk of death from cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers. Excessive thinness, however, associated with death caused by respiratory diseases and lung cancer.
Now the truth of this last assertion is put into question by many experts, reports Kompyulenta. They believe that this is the place to be reverse causation. In other words, cancer leads to weight loss, and not vice versa. In addition, excessive thinness, and cancer can also be caused by smoking and the adverse socio-economic circumstances, rather than be the cause of each other.
Employees of the University of Bristol (UK) and the Royal Institute ( Sweden) analyzed the relationship between BMI and cause of death for more than a million pairs of Swedish “Mother and Son” and “father and son” for half a century. Communication was more than strong, especially in relation to cardiovascular disease (scientists point to the fact that she underestimated), diabetes, and cancer of the kidneys.
Meanwhile, do not establish a correspondence between low BMI and increased risk of death due to respiratory disease and lung cancer.
Conclusions of researchers described in the publication of British Medical Journal, doctors should make the review looks at the program to reduce body weight. Thinness should not be afraid.
